Membership FAQs

What do I gain from the Soroptimist International of Kansas City (SIKC)?

SIKC programs focus on helping local and global girls and women achieve their dreams and economic stability. When surveyed, our members overwhelmingly identified the community service opportunities as rewarding experiences. Sharing a little bit of ourselves with those in need helps us move the needle towards secure and happy lives for more girls and women. Please visit the Why Join page for additional information.

How much are the annual dues?

Dues vary according to the time of year you join.
July 1 – December 31, 2025: $176.55
January 1 – July 31, 2026: $137.55
Subsequent dues are payable by June 1st of each year.

What costs can be expected?

Our monthly business meetings are held at area restaurants, public libraries, and event spaces. Most restaurants allow us to order from the menu in advance (to Attendance@KCSoroptimist.org) then each person pays separately at the conclusion of the evening. A few venues require a single payment, for which we’ll ask you to reimburse SIKC for your meal with cash, check or a credit card (a 3% processing fee applies).
Monthly dining costs depend most often on what you choose from the menu. Your order will also include applicable tax and gratuity (18-20% is usual). Example past menus include O’Neill’s, Grand Street Cafe, Panera, and Granite City.
We frequently collect and donate specific types of items for many of the local 501(c)3s we support.
Feel free to participate to the extent you are comfortable.

What are my responsibilities as an SIKC member?

We encourage attendance at meetings and participation on one or more committees.  Examples of our community service projects are collecting and delivering goods, especially Period Poverty Prevention Packs supplies, serving meals, writing letters, organizing events at local facilities, or specific projects proposed to us by our community partners. We appreciate the many demands on today’s professionals so understand your available time will ebb and flow.

What are the next steps for joining SIKC?

Once a new member has submitted the completed membership application and paid the dues via cash (in person to the Treasurer at a meeting), check (SIKC, 1221 W. 103rd Street, #224, Kansas City, MO 64114) or credit card (a 3% processing fee applies via Square), she is inducted to the club with a brief ceremony at the next available meeting. A new member orientation of an hour or two will then be scheduled.

Please contact info@kcsoroptimist.org to get the ball rolling or if you have any lingering questions about joining SIKC.

We look forward to welcoming you to SIKC!
